Satinwood Tree Planting project

March 25, 2024

The Columbia Association in partnership with the Village of Hickory Ridge and the Hickory Ridge Watershed Advisory Committee would like to hold a tree planting event that will transform the mowed field adjacent to the pathway below Satinwood Drive back into a mixed meadow-forest environment.
Approximately 60 native trees and shrubs would be planted, and native wildflower mix would be sown within the open field. The goals of the project will be to:

  • Increase biodiversity,
  • Create habitat for wildlife,
  • Capture carbon within the woody plants,
  • Reduce mowing,
  • Capture more stormwater runoff, and
  • Restore the area to its native environment.

The hope is that the event will take place on Sunday, April 28th at 1:00pm – you would be welcome to join in! Please see the location map and planting plan. (Note: the grayed area in the planting plan is open space above sewer lines that cross the field.)
