Have you ever wondered “What kind of tree is this?” or, “How do trees benefit the environment?” The Howard County Forestry Board and the Hickory Ridge Watershed Advisory Committee are co-sponsoring a Guided Tree Walk with certified arborists, entomologists and horticulturists to help you understand the value of trees to the watershed and wildlife, as well as how to identify various types of trees by their leaves, bark, fruit and flowers. Join us on Sunday, June 7 from 4—5:30 pm to walk along the CA pathways near Clemens Crossing Elementary School in Hickory Ridge. Wear comfortable shoes, as the walk will cover about 1.5 miles. All ages and abilities are welcome! Please call the village office for more information and to RSVP.
Chesapeake Environmental Communications and the Hickory Ridge Watershed Advisory Committee are co-sponsoring a Rain Barrel Workshop at The Hawthorn Center on Monday, September 21 from 7—9 pm. This free workshop will teach you everything you need to know about how to install and maintain a rain barrel on your property. This event is made possible through a grant by the Chesapeake Bay Trust to engage the Middle Patuxent Environmental Area (MPEA) community in identifying best management practices for homeowners and finding engineering solutions for the impacts of stormwater-generated erosion and sediment. Please RSVP to firstname.lastname@example.org by 9/7: The first 30
residents to reply will receive a FREE rain barrel.
