The Village Board recently received a presentation regarding a proposed Community Ecology Center to be located at 8000 Harriet Tubman Lane near Freetown Road. An existing 6 acre organic farm would be transformed into an active agricultural and environmental community center where people can learn through hands-on experience about how to live healthier and more sustainable lives. In order to open the farm to the public, a Conditional Use Plan would need to be approved by Howard County. The plan would utilize the existing barn structure for education and office space. There will be an outdoor education space for community programming, food gardens and conservation landscapes, a farm stand and an interpretive trail. The program would be run by the Community Ecology Institute, a Howard County non-profit.
The plan will be presented and questions can be asked at a pre-submission community meeting at the Central Library at 6:30pm on Tuesday, April 9. For more information, contact Chiara D’Amore at email@example.com or visit http://www.communityecologyinstitute.org
